The  Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications provides communications classes, mainly in journalism and related fields, to the public in New Hampshire. Each year, they host an annual First Amendment Awards ceremony where the amendment is celebrated and one individual who has exercised their First Amendment rights in some extraordinary way is honored. The event was not able to be held in 2020 due to concerns with COVID-19.

In place of the event, the school decided to publish a magazine that was distributed to subscribers of the New Hampshire Union Leader. The magazine contains a spotlight on this year’s awardee, some history of the award, and essay reflections on the First Amendment from notable figures in New Hampshire and beyond, such as Trish Regan and Joe Biden. The magazine is featured on the school’s website, along with some other information about the event and a coinciding video presentation.
